Job Introduction

Permanent Key Stage 2 Teaching Assistant Required

Full-Time (30 hours per week)

Paid at Grade 4

Fir Tree is a vibrant, successful two form entry Junior School in the town of Wallingford, south Oxfordshire. 235 pupils are on roll (Year 3 – Year 6). The Thameside town of Wallingford has excellent transport links with Oxford, Reading and the surrounding south Oxfordshire towns and villages.

A rare opportunity to join our team as a Teaching Assistant has arisen. This full-time role will commence during the autumn term (pre-Christmas). The successful candidate will be deployed in Key Stage 2, and, working alongside highly skilled professionals, will wake up each morning with the opportunity to make a difference to the lives of children, while at the same time working in a school which values the professional development of all its staff. This role will be varied, in that it will involve some 1:1 work with specific children as well as there being aspects of facilitating learning for groups of enthusiastic pupils.

Visitors to our school routinely comment on the calm and purposeful environment we have created, underpinned by the values of respect, friendship, tolerance, courage, perseverance and responsibility. Expectations of behaviour are high. Clear and consistently applied policies are in place to ensure that no learning time is wasted. Teaching and learning at Fir Tree is characterised by warm relationships, high expectations and a clear and coherent way of following approaches that make a difference in the classroom.

As part of the Oxford Diocesan School Trust, we are firmly committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Due to this post having access to children and/or vulnerable adults, candidates will be required to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service check. The possession of a criminal record, including family members, may prevent an applicant from obtaining this post, as all cases are judged individually according to the nature of the role and information provided.

Closing date for applications: Thursday 7th November (midday).  Interviews will be held during the week commencing 11th November.  However, the School reserves the right to Interview on receipt of sufficient applications and close the application process early. Therefore, if you are interested, please apply as early as you can.

An ODST Application form and the relevant job description and person specification are available on the school website www.firtreejuniors.org

Visits to the school are encouraged and these can be arranged by contacting us by phone or email (01491 836341/admin.2578@fir-tree.oxon.sch.uk)
