Role: Community Link Worker

Accountable to: Assistant Headteacher, SENDCO and Headteacher 

Grade: Grade 6

Objective:

 

  • The aim is to engage the community through groups such as ‘Stay and Play’ and use the groups to identify vulnerable children and families as early as possible. They will also work alongside the SENDCO to run the settings Home Hub to support children in communication and language. 

 

Main areas of responsibility:

 

  1. To offer support to parents/carers/families, this could be in the home hub, in school, in community groups or by telephone

 

  1. To identify young people’s issues and family difficulties that impact on school attendance and learning, to support schools in planning effectively for individual young people

 

  1. To work with the SENCO to signpost young people where appropriate when issues at home are affecting or are likely to affect their attendance and learning at school

 

  1. Give particular attention to pupils transitioning into nursery and from nursery to primary school and provide support to children/families as appropriate

 

  1. To build bridges and promote closer collaboration between families and school

 

  1. To promote awareness of support available to families within the local community, schools and other agencies

 

  1. To provide feedback both verbal and written on their work for evaluation and monitoring purposes.

 

  1. To undertake any reasonable tasks, as directed by the Headteacher and SENDCO

 

The duties of the post may vary from time to time without changing the general character or the level of responsibility.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Relevant level 3 Qualification 
  • Successful experience of caring for children from 2 years to 5 years
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures
  • A positive approach to gaining further qualifications
  • Paediatric First Aid Certificate

 

 

Knowledge and Understanding

  • Knowledge of the Early Learning Goals and the Foundation Stage Curriculum
  • An understanding of child development
  • Knowledge of how to support children’s learning and next steps
  • Knowledge of how to support a child with special educational needs

 

  • How to support a child with EAL

Skills

  • Good organisational skills
  • The ability to observe, plan and assess children 
  • Good communication skills
  • Skilled at getting the best from others 
  • Experience of working in the community
