Main purpose
Teachers will:
- Fulfil the professional responsibilities of a teacher, as set out in the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document.
- Meet the expectations outlined in the Teachers’ Standards.
- Uphold and actively promote the Christian ethos of the school, embedding its values of love, respect, determination, creativity, confidence, and inclusion in all aspects of their work.
Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching
- Plan and deliver well-structured lessons to assigned classes, following the school’s plans, curriculum, and schemes of work.
- Assess, monitor, record, and report on the learning needs, progress, and achievements of assigned children, making accurate and productive use of assessment.
- Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of all pupils, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
- Set high expectations that inspire, motivate, and challenge pupils, fostering a culture of achievement and aspiration.
- Promote good progress and outcomes for all pupils.
- Demonstrate strong subject and curriculum knowledge.
- Participate in arrangements for preparing pupils for key stage tests.
- Ensure that the needs of all pupils are met, particularly SEND pupils, and that parents and carers are informed of plans to support their children.
- Set high expectations for behaviour, promoting a positive and respectful environment for pupils and staff.
- Embed school values and prioritise inclusion and the celebration of diversity in teaching and learning.
Whole-School Organisation, Strategy, and Development
- Contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of the school’s policies, practices, and procedures, ensuring alignment with the school’s vision and values.
- Make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the school.
- Lead a curriculum area.
- Collaborate with others on curriculum and child development to achieve co-ordinated outcomes.
- Provide cover in unforeseen circumstances where another teacher is unable to teach.
Professional Development
- Participate in the school’s appraisal procedures.
- Engage in further training and professional development to enhance teaching practice and impact.
- Contribute to the appraisal and professional development of others, where appropriate.
Communication
- Communicate effectively with pupils, parents, and carers to build strong relationships and support learning.
- Regularly update the school website with class information, events, and subject area updates, as directed by senior leaders, typically on a weekly basis during term time
Working with Colleagues and Other Relevant Professionals
- Collaborate and work effectively with colleagues and other relevant professionals within and beyond the school community.
- Develop strong professional relationships with colleagues to foster a collaborative and supportive working environment.
Personal and Professional Conduct
- Uphold public trust in the teaching profession and maintain high standards of ethics and behaviour, both within and outside the school. Following the school’s code of conduct.
- Demonstrate proper and professional regard for the ethos, policies, and practices of the school, ensuring high standards of attendance and punctuality.
- Act within the statutory frameworks setting out professional duties and responsibilities.
- Respond promptly and within given timeframes to requests for information.
- Carry out all duties in accordance with the Equality Act 2010, ensuring that no individual is discriminated against on the basis of protected characteristics.
- Actively promote equality, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of school life.
Data protection and confidentiality
- Comply with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
- Ensure that personal data relating to pupils, parents, carers, and staff is handled confidentially, securely, and lawfully at all times.
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries when accessing, storing, and sharing information.
Management of Staff and Resources
- Direct and supervise support staff assigned to them, and where appropriate, other teachers.
- Contribute to the recruitment and professional development of teachers and support staff.
- Use resources effectively and responsibly, ensuring they are deployed to maximise pupil outcomes.
Health and Safety
- Promote the safety and wellbeing of children, yourself, and other staff at all times,.
- Participate in health and safety training, as well as first aid training, as required.
- Attend weekly briefing meetings to receive regular health and safety updates.
- Report any safety concerns about the school environment to MW, CB, or BC promptly. Concerns related to the safety or welfare of children should be directed to the DSL.
- Be vigilant for patterns of accidents or near misses and take proactive measures to prevent accidents involving children in your care wherever possible.
- Complete a classroom risk assessment to ensure a safe learning environment.
- Follow risk assessments for all activities requiring them that involve your assigned children, in liaison with the educational visits coordinator (JP) and senior staff.
