St Andrew’s C E Primary School is an inclusive school and we are proud of the ethos and values shared by all staff, children, parents and Governors.
We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic teaching assistant to join our supportive staff team. This will be a temporary post running from November 2024 until July 2025.
The post will be for 25 hours per week, usually 9.00am to 3.00pm with one hour off during the date for lunch.
St Andrew’s School is committed to safeguarding children and young people. All post holders in regulated activity are subject to appropriate vetting procedures and a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service Enhanced check. Staff will be expected to promote fundamental British values.
Aim of the job - To work under the instruction/guidance of teaching/senior staff to undertake work/care/support programmes, to enable access to learning for pupils and to assist the teacher in the management of pupils and the classroom. Work may be carried out in the classroom or outside the main teaching area. This work will be supporting children with special educational needs, particularly children with communication and interaction needs. This will include supporting the learning outcomes for children with an Educational Health Care Plan, working in small groups or one to one.
Person Specification
Experience:
- Working with or caring for children of relevant age
Qualifications:
- Good numeracy/literacy skills
- NVQ 2 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent qualifications or experience
- Training in the relevant learning strategies e.g. literacy
- First aid training/training as appropriate
Knowledge & Skills:
- Experience of supporting children with special needs would be beneficial although not essential as full training will be given.
- Understanding of relevant polices/codes of practice and awareness of relevant legislation
- Basic understanding of child development and learning
- Ability to self-evaluate learning needs and actively seek learning opportunities
- Ability to relate well to children and adults
- Work constructively as part of a team, understanding classroom roles and responsibilities and your own position within these.
