“Education is not the filling of a bucket, but the lighting of a fire.” – W.B. Yeats

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to lead a successful, values-driven village school in a beautiful Cotswold setting. We are seeking a visionary and compassionate Headteacher to build on our strengths and lead Great Tew Primary School into its next chapter, enhancing the curriculum, nurturing staff, and sustaining our vibrant, family-centred culture.

 About Us

Great Tew Primary School is a small, nurturing school at the heart of a vibrant rural community. Recently praised by Ofsted for our strong culture of kindness, high expectations and excellent behaviour, we are proud of our nurturing ethos, broad and inspiring curriculum and consistently strong academic outcomes.

We enjoy strong community support, excellent partnerships with local organisations and a rich offer that includes outdoor learning in our wild garden, sport, music and the arts.

The Role

We are looking for a Headteacher who will:

  • Lead with strategic clarity, empathy and ambition
  • Champion excellence in teaching, learning and safeguarding
  • Empower pupils and staff alike to achieve their full potential
  • Be an approachable leader who thrives within a supportive, close-knit community

If you would like to lead a school where the children are eager to learn, standards are high and where supportive parents and governors seek a fully rounded education for every pupil, this role could be yours.

Visits to the school are strongly encouraged. To arrange a visit or an informal conversation, please contact our School Business Manager, Cassie Witney, at sbm.2104@great-tew.oxon.sch.uk or call 01608 683642.

Applications should include a completed application form, a covering letter outlining your educational philosophy and vision for Great Tew Primary School, and a supporting statement (max 1000 words) demonstrating your suitability for the role.

Safeguarding Statement
Great Tew Primary School is
committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and other relevant pre-employment checks.
