 Job Title: 1:1 Teaching Assistant/mixed age class TA 

 Grade: 4 

Responsible to: SENCO, Class Teacher, Headteacher

Purpose of Job:   

• To work as a general class TA in a mixed age class for half of the week. 

• To provide 1:1 support a child with an EHCP for the other half of the week. 

Duties and Responsibilities of a Teaching Assistant:   

Support for mixed age class   

• To provide support to children in mixed age class in all subjects   

• To teach small groups in Maths and English where required. 

• To deliver interventions where required by the class teacher.   

• To prepare and gather resources for learning.   

• To do break and lunch duty where required.   

Support for 1:1 pupil 

• To work towards pupils individualised targets set out within the EHCP, in liaison with the class teacher and SENCO.   

• To develop knowledge of the particular needs of the pupils and seek advice from the SENCO, class teacher and outside agencies as directed.   

• To aid access to the full range of learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom and provide modified materials as required e.g. games, visual prompt cards etc.  

 • To make or modify resources as suggested and advised by the SENCO, Educational Psychologist or other outside agencies.   

• To be involved in the planning and preparation of the day to day class activities. 

• To organise and maintain an inclusive learning environment both in the classroom and outside.   

• Provide positive reinforcements, praise and rewards.   

• To provide emotional support to a child with an EHCP when they are dysregulated.  

Support for the school

• work as part of a flexible and supportive team to further the vision and aims of the school 

• be familiar with and supportive of school policies, including those relating to child protection, health and safety, safeguarding, confidentiality and data protection   

• participate in the yearly cycle of performance management as directed by the head teacher 

• undertake the relevant training (be it ‘in house’ or off-site) to enhance personal development and use the knowledge to benefit the school and its younger children   

• put up displays in the classroom and around the school 

• be responsible for the care of the resources in the classroom and around the school and their storage whilst keeping all areas tidy   

• undertake lunchtime supervision and playground duty when requested/agreed 

• assist with general supervision of children on trips outside school 

• assist, on a day-to-day basis, with first aid and the general care and welfare of all the children in the school   

• liaise with and work alongside other adults and visitors who have come to help supervise/ teach/ support the children 

General responsibilities 

To take appropriate responsibility for one’s own health, safety and welfare and the health, safety and welfare of pupils, visitors and work colleagues in accordance with the requirements of legislation and locally-adopted policies; including taking responsibility for raising safeguarding concerns with an appropriate manager.
