Are you ready to take the next step in your leadership journey?

Are you an excellent classroom practitioner looking to gain senior leadership experience?

Would you value the opportunity to lead Teaching & Learning across the school as part of your professional development?

We are an oversubscribed, popular village school with a strong sense of community. We are seeking to appoint an outstanding Main Scale Teacher (UPS for the right candidate) to take on additional Senior Teacher responsibilities with a focus on Teaching and Learning.

This role is designed as a leadership development opportunity. It would suit:

  • An ambitious teacher aspiring to senior leadership,
  • A middle leader ready for broader whole-school impact,
  • Or a colleague seeking a secondment to gain substantial leadership experience.

The successful candidate will remain a full-time class teacher (Years 1 and 2), while working closely with the Headteacher and SLT to develop Teaching & Learning across the school.

Our Headteacher is also an Executive Headteacher at Stonesfield School and previously a School Improvement Partner for the Local Authority and a mentor to aspiring Headteachers, meaning this role offers significant professional development and coaching.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced teacher to join our outward-looking school, and further progress within a supportive, dedicated and forward-thinking team.

We pride ourselves on supporting staff to be highly successful, recognising that success comes in a wide variety of ways, creating a culture of continual improvement where we look to provide the best possible educational experience for all our children and staff. Our professional development meetings (staff meetings) are spent reading research, in training or planning together.

Our children are enthusiastic, inquisitive and keen to learn and succeed. Our families are supportive, proactive and community minded. Our Headteacher and Governors are ambitious and tenacious in their approach to school leadership.

Our Ofsted report (February 2022) described the school as “a harmonious place where staff, pupils and parents and carers all feel that they are part of one close-knit family. Happiness and joy are apparent everywhere.”

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is an excellent classroom practitioner with high expectations for all pupils.
  • Is ready to develop leadership experience within a supportive environment.
  • Can inspire and positively influence colleagues.
  • Is reflective, research-informed and committed to improving outcomes.
  • Is ambitious and may aspire to future senior leadership.
  • Works well independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Has a strong understanding of high-quality teaching and curriculum design.
  • Has a good sense of humour and perspective.

The Role

This post combines:

1. Class Teacher

  • Full responsibility for a class.
  • Planning, assessment and delivery of high-quality, inclusive teaching.
  • Creating a stimulating and ambitious learning environment.
  • Monitoring and tracking pupil progress.
  • Building strong relationships with parents and carers.
  • Contributing to the wider life of the school.

2. Senior Teacher Responsibilities (Teaching & Learning Focus)

Working alongside the Headteacher, you will:

  • Support the development of high-quality Teaching & Learning across the school.
  • Help monitor standards through book looks, pupil voice and learning walks.
  • Support colleagues in interpreting data and identifying next steps.
  • Lead or contribute to professional development meetings and INSET.
  • Support subject leaders in driving forward action plans.
  • Promote research-informed practice.
  • Contribute to school improvement priorities.
  • Support safeguarding as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (training provided).
  • Act up in a supportive capacity in the absence of the Headteacher where appropriate (developmental experience, not statutory accountability).

This role does not carry the statutory responsibilities of a member of the Senior Leadership Team, but provides meaningful exposure to whole-school leadership.

What We Can Offer

  • A genuinely happy, supportive team (100% staff satisfaction in recent survey).
  • Enthusiastic, inquisitive pupils.
  • Committed and ambitious governors.
  • Dedicated leadership time each week to fulfil senior responsibilities.
  • Structured leadership mentoring from an experienced Headteacher.
  • Opportunities to attend SLT meetings for leadership development.
  • CPD including leadership pathways (e.g. NPQs, L7 apprenticeship routes).
  • A strong commitment to workload reduction and staff wellbeing.
  • Blocked PPA time that can be taken off site.
  • The opportunity to shape curriculum development within a school recognised locally as a model of excellence.
  • A sociable, high-spirited team.

This is no ordinary school; this may be a small school, but it has big ambition.

Mrs Kim Rogers

Headteacher
