Job Introduction

St Mary and St John CE Primary School is looking for a Home School Link Worker to join our team in September.

Main role and responsibilities:

  • To build positive relationships with families and help to develop positive links between families and school.
  • To encourage good communication between families and school staff.
  • To build bridges and promote closer collaboration between families and school.
  • To develop strong partnerships with outside agencies.
  • To promote awareness of support available to families within the local community, schools and other agencies.
  • To support in improving attendance and punctuality using data provided by the DHT and offering assistance to families.
  • To identify children’s issues and family difficulties that impact on school attendance, and to support the school in planning effectively for individual children.
  • To liaise with other schools to ensure that vulnerable families are supported through transitions, and where appropriate, provide group and/or one to one support for these families.
  • To work directly with children and families, individually and in groups, particularly focusing on skills to support parenting, behaviour management, play and practical support.
  • To lead regular drop in coffee mornings for families.
  • To contribute to the Early Help process.
  • To attend Team Around the Family (TAF) meetings with members of the Leadership Team.
  • To carry out doorstep and/or home visits with members of the Leadership Team. 
  • To help families to access information and benefits.
  • To provide verbal and written feedback, keeping clear records of meetings and contacts, recording actions to be taken.  To monitor and evaluate effectiveness of these actions.
  • To be a member of the safeguarding team.
  • To commit to continuing professional development (CPD).
