Job/Person Summary

Orchard Infant School is looking to recruit a Headteacher for April 2021 owing to the retirement of our current Head. This is an exciting opportunity for an existing or aspiring Headteacher to take on the leadership of our successful, happy school. 

We are a 3 form entry located in the village of Dibden Purlieu, which is adjacent to the New Forest National Park and within easy reach of the City of Southampton. The school sits on a large site that we share with Orchard Junior School and Noadswood Secondary School. Our school is rated outstanding by OFSTED and the Governors and staff are committed to maintaining and building upon this position of excellence. 

The Governing Body wishes to appoint someone who will lead our school into its next phase by continuing to develop and improve upon the outstanding teaching delivered through our integrated curriculum, and by extending our reach in the community. This leader will need to have a clear vision of what is required, and the dynamism to ensure every child benefits from their first experience of school learning at Orchard.

• Is an inspirational leader who is committed to high quality staff development and who embraces a culture of opportunity and shared ownership.
• Exhibits a caring and empathetic approach, dealing positively with all those in their care.
• Will work with the staff to develop, enhance and personalise the intent, implementation and impact of our curriculum in a creative and imaginative way that emphasises the strengths of the school and responds to the needs and ambitions of the whole school community.

• Can demonstrate a vision and has the energy to drive continuous improvement through a supportive senior management team and committed staff; they must show how they will involve the whole school in driving that improvement, utilizing the strengths and skills available.
• Can explain how they will ensure every child in their care continues to receive outstanding teaching.
• Will ensure that any gaps in learning are identified early and that measures are put in place to ensure all children remain on track to achieve their full potential, with the benchmark being that we expect very high standards from them all.
• Is committed to forming a positive working relationship with all stakeholders in the school and the wider community.
