School Business Manager

Salary Details: Grade 8 (£29,636 to £32,878 depending on experience)

Hours of Work: 37 hours per week (8.00am to 4.00pm Mon-Thu, 8.00am to 3.30pm Fri)

Job/Person Summary

We are looking for an excellent, enthusiastic and highly motivated School Business Manager who will play an integral role of the Senior Leadership Team. Previous experience of working in school business management would be beneficial.



Key Accountabilities

  1. To manage the school administration and premises team, providing guidance and support, setting priorities and dealing with problems;
  2. To assist the Headteacher to set and manage budgets and procurement, and to administer and maintain accounting systems/ records and prepare financial statements, monitoring reports and returns as required;
  3. To undertake payroll and personnel administration, including managing or assisting with the recruitment and induction procedures for new staff and managing and recording staff absence and sickness;
  4. To ensure that the team provides an efficient and comprehensive administrative support service, including:
    • greeting visitors and providing hospitality
    • dealing with routine enquiries from parents, the LA and other agencies/organisations
    • word processing correspondence and other documents
    • record keeping, photocopying and filing
  5. To ensure that all orders, payments and invoices are processed efficiently and that there are systems for managing the collection, recording and banking of cash payments;
  6. To ensure that support is provided to the Head Teacher, and that items of a sensitive and confidential nature are dealt with appropriately;
  7. To administer, organise and maintain all aspects of the SIMS database and associated records;
  8. To prepare and send statistical and other reports and returns to the Governing Body, LA, DfE and other organisations/bodies as required;
  9. To design, prepare and produce documents including the school newsletter;
  10. To establish and maintain procedures for pupil welfare, including the administering of First Aid and medicines and notifying parents when children are ill;
  11. To ensure that the school has appropriate Health and Safety arrangements and that relevant Risk Assessments are carried out;
  12. To liaise with other school staff, contractors and outside agencies/organisations as appropriate;
  13. To take the lead in financial reporting to the governing body;
  14. Managing the operation of the business functions of the school;
  15. Advise and implement day-to-day support to all the SLT to promote efficiency;
  16. To carry out any other administrative procedure, within the responsibility level of the post, as directed by the Headteacher.
