School Governors have a key role in supporting the Headteacher and staff in its development and governance of the School for example:
You don’t need any prior experience or to know anything about education or schooling. Training to support you in this role is available in a range of ways including daytime and evening courses and computer-based learning. We all come from a range of different backgrounds and each one of us brings something different.
There is a time commitment, but we are flexible about how and when everyone makes a contribution. On a termly basis, we would expect you to attend two full Governing Body meetings and two sub-committee meetings, either Resources or Curriculum & Standards, which take place in the evening. It is essential that you can get into the school about once a term for a visit. School visits take many forms, sometimes it is to talk to the children and get their views, sometimes it is about spending time with one of the curriculum subject lead teachers to understand plans and the progress they are making, and sometimes it is to review the performance management arrangements or to ensure that key processes or audits are in place.
Whatever the role you play on the Governing body we can guarantee it will be both interesting and rewarding.
