Job/Person Summary

We are looking to appoint a fantastic caretaker, with a strong sense of pride in their work & who believes in doing a job to the best of their ability, to join our split-site junior school & all-through primary school. This role would suit someone who has a range of practical skills and can carry out DIY jobs as well as cleaning.

The Caretaker will contribute to the day-to-day operational management of our school, ensuring the safety and security of the school site. They will provide a caretaking, cleaning, porterage and routine maintenance service to meet the needs of the school, ensuring high standards of cleanliness operational effectiveness, and compliance with health and safety requirements. 

The successful candidate will enjoy working in a school environment, build positive relationships with the staff and take pride and responsibility for maintaining our school to a high standard. Experience is desirable but full training will be available for the successful candidate. 

The successful candidate will be able to:

• show initiative, be proactive, have good organisational and time management skills
• be a team player and be a member of our school community
• be able to work flexibly to support the needs of the school
• help manage the new site and buildings to the highest standard possible
• take responsibility for security and be a key holder
• undertake a range of repairs and maintenance and ensure lighting and heating are operational                                   
• work with the Site Manager to ensure all aspects of health and safety for the school and the site     
• ensure that a high level of confidentiality and professionalism is maintained
• be a problem-solver with strong practical DIY skills
• be able to send emails and use the internet confidently
• be creative, open-minded and adaptable
• be able to work as part of a team
• oversee the cleanliness of the school (with the support of our cleaning team), and be willing to carry out cleaning duties if required.

The role’s will amongst other items will involve:

• Being responsible for the opening and closing of the school site   
• Regular checking and record keeping to meet legislative health and safety requirements
• Within levels of competency, undertaking repairs or maintenance tasks to ensure that the school building and site are safe and attractive environments
